Characteristics of Abusers

1. Come from all socioeconomic classes, ages, races, ethnic groups and levels of education. 
2. 80% were abused as children or saw their mothers being abused 
3. Place enormous expectations on partners to feel good about themselves 
4. Untrusting 
5. Have poor self esteem 
6. Tend to express negative feeling as anger 
7. Get needs met from controlling behaviours 
8. Hold very stereotyped views of male-female roles and relationships 
9. Jealous and dependent on partner 
10. Can be pleasant outside the home, but unkind at home. 
11. Tend to minimized and blame partner for the abuse.
