How soon after delivery can I get pregnant?

You could actually release an egg and get pregnant again as early as 2 or 3 weeks after delivery! You can get pregnant even if your period has not returned; usually your period comes 2 weeks after you ovulate.

Breastfeeding naturally decreases a woman’s fertility. This method of fertility control is called “Lactational Amenorrhea”, but it is not 100% effective, and can only be used for birth control IF the baby is less than 6 months old and IF the baby is being only breastfed at regular intervals (i.e. no supplements) and IF the woman’s periods have not returned and if the baby is not sleeping more than 6 consecutive hours.

Couples who definitely want to prevent another pregnancy so soon should consider adding another contraceptive method.
