How Common is Masturbation Among Males and Females?

Most people masturbate at some point in their lives. Some people masturbate every day. Some people masturbate occasionally and some people never masturbate. According to the chart below, based on a survey from the United States, by the age of 16-17 over half of males and about a quarter of females said they masturbated at least once in the past month. Masturbation is most common for both men and women in the 25-29 age group. At ages 25-29 just over two thirds of males and just over half of females masturbated at least once in the past month. So, younger people who do not masturbate at all in their teens may masturbate when they are older. As we can also see in the chart, many people in their 50’s, 60’s and 70’s masturbate at least occasionally.
